ARCH1142-Workshop3: Montage It!

This workshop requires the skills of  modeling, drawing and photoshop. The idea of this 4 weeks journey is creativity. We need make our conceptual design and interperter our thinking of the concept by puting the model into particular site. This process is done by photoshop.

The artwork I chose was The Wall at Storm King. The wall is curving all the way down to the river and connects two space- the land and the river. Therefore I made my bridge based on these ideas.

 Final Photomontages

My flip book starts from the longshot of the cliffs to approach the close up. The journey was to walk from one end of the bridge to the other end. Different experience of viewing the mountain is expressed by comparing different slides of the flipbook.

ARCH1142-Workshop2: Draw It!

This 4-week workshop focused mainly on drawing and rendering techniques and explored how these techniques can represent different aspects in architecture communication. Throughout this workshop, I gained some basic drawing skills such as one point perspective and two point perspective drawing, axonomatric drawing and some other rendering techniques.

In the first week, we were required to draw the plan of the two house exercise from workshop 1. We needed to be careful with choice of thickness of lines and whether dotted lines are appropriate. We were also required to complete rendering of three house which were drawn by first perspective, and that was our take home exercise.

In the second week, we went downstairs red centre to draw some uni buildings using two point perspective.

In the thired week we were required to submit a drawing set of the selected house and testing the different rendering method. The drawing set included floor plans, sections, elevations. My selected building was fisher house by Louis Kahn.

The last technique we learnt was axonomatric drawing. My tutor stated that a good choice of axonomatric is more powerful than a handful of parallel drawing- it reads everything.

ARCH1142-Workshop1: Model It!

poster made to conclude Workshop 1

This workshop is to make models both at class and at home. The class exercise involves creativity while the take home exercise requires precision and accuracy. Throughout this 4-week period, I have learnt some basic skill of making models and also learnt how models can carry out different ideas in architecture communication.

In the first week's studio. We were required to make two houses in a certain dimension and then work out a way to join them together.

In the second week, we were give a section shape in class and to make three models based on this section. The models do not need to be actual buildings, they can be any ideas.

The third week's studio asked us to make a section of Fisher House at 1:50. It involved more skills as we had to understand the section plans of the building and bring them into 3D model.
